Video: Mellowhype “64”

One of the many problems with rap shows is that they tend to be terrible places for artists to debut new music. Fans come to hear the songs they know and the ones they don't fall on deaf ears. Maybe it's because rap songs have too many words, or because rap shows tend to have too many hypemen stepping on those words. Whatever the case Mellowhype’s "64” has bucked the trend by becoming a fan favorite at recent Odd Future shows, bolstered by both the track's dark energy and the all too willing fanboyism of the average OF crowd. Last night (as of midnight, naturally) the duo finally debuted the studio recording of the track and also their first full length and professionally produced music video. On it Hodgy’s rhymes balance goth imagery and the lyrically lyrical thesaurus abuse of rappers from decades past, while Left Brain's beat and the accompanying clip is just just full goth. Mellowhype's 2010 freebee album Blackendwhite gets the physical treatment (vinyl too!) from Fat Possum on July 12th.
