Combat Rock: The US Army’s Greatest Bands

July 18, 2011

Following in the footsteps of this New York Times report on the US military's weirdly technical strategic deployment of hundreds of rock bands— which the Army officially calls "multiple objective music performance teams with targeted musical styles"—Mother Jones has compiled 10 music videos by Army, Marine and Navy combat rockers. Performing in fatigues in gyms, bunkers, at recruitment days and at a Bahrain mall, most of the bands stick to innocuous popular covers—Journey, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd and A-Ha. But our instant favorites the Four Horsemen of the Arockalypse, shown above, not only scream through their own soldier-centric original, they've recorded a proper music video, god bless them. A couple other favorites are below, and the full collection is at Mother Jones.
