Stream: Lykke Li, “Silver Springs (Fleetwood Mac Cover)

July 05, 2012

Originally recorded for their 1977 album Rumours, Fleetwood Mac’s "Silver Springs" remains a passionate, heart-wrenching extension of the personal turmoil transformed into the music on the legendary record. Supposedly inspired by bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's break-up, the song plunges deep into heartbreak, a world composed of contradictions and regrets, at times so difficult to emerge from. With her own interpretation, Sweden's Lykke Li demonstrates great musicianship, compassionately and successfully confronting the sensitivity of "Silver Springs." Her cover maintains the same combination of strength and vulnerability conveyed by Nicks, but adds a spacious ambiance, igniting a supernatural feel to the once earthy song. Listen to the track as well as the original version below. Lykke Li's version comes out August 14th on the tribute album of Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits, Just Tell Me That You Want Me, via Concord Music Group.
