Stream: Sensate Focus, “X”

Glitch musician Mark Fell is perhaps best known for his uber-spartan, repetitious beat compositions, but he seems to be getting a little more "out there" with his new Editions Mego imprint, Sensate Focus. The five releases in the label's discography so far are differentiated by numbers, all of which are out of chronological order (Sensate 10, Sensate 5, Sensate 3.33333...). More bizarrely, all the 12-inches come with a complimentary pencil and start with a track titled "X," no matter whom Fell happens to be teamed up with. This particular "X" is a track from a 12" with SND collaborator Matt Steel. With its trancey synths and chopped-up vocal sample, it's a lot more elaborate than what we're used to hearing from Fell, even if, rhythmically, it's just as likely to trip you up.
