Kanye Premieres Single “New Slaves” in First of 66 Surprise Screenings

May 17, 2013

On the heels of his surprise performance at Adult Swim’s Upfront event at Roseland Ballroom earlier this week, at about 10 pm on Friday evening, Kanye offered lucky passersby in Williamsburg, Brooklyn another glimpse at his much teased, still unnamed 6th album, possibly dropping mid-June. A large black truck parked on the corner of Bedford and N 7th, and as a curious crowd gathered, a projector from the truck's rear cast a large black and white video of Kanye performing "New Slaves" from his forthcoming album. Catch part of the video below.

The song looped twice, and as quickly as it appeared, the truck closed up shop and drove off. I tracked down a PR person milling around the corner. "We can't say whether this is the single or what," she told me. All she could say was that there would be 66 screenings projected on 66 walls in Miami, Berlin, Paris, Sydney, and beyond in the next 48 hours. "That's all you're supposed to know right now," she said. Check out the full schedule of screenings at kanyewest.com.
