Jay-Z Announces New Album, Magna Carta Holy Grail

During the NBA Finals, Jay-Z announced, via a commercial for himself and Samsung Galaxy, that his new record, Magna Carta Holy Grail, is coming. As the Wall Street Journal points out, Samsung already purchased 1 million copies of the album, which they’ll give away to for free on an app starting July 4th, three days ahead of the album’s general release on July 7th. (The app will be available on June 24th.) Looks like Rick Rubin sherpa’d Magna Carta, and that Pharrell, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz all helped out. Shout out to photographer Ari Marcopoulos making a solid cameo in the video, potentially picking out album art. Watch the Jay commerical above and our FADER TV: Art Show with Marcopoulos below.

Is that a pen and a pad in Hov’s hand?

Jay Z announces this in the wake of his boy J. Cole’s new album Born Sinner. Is this a reaction of Jay losing grip of the rap game he once owned? Whatever you think, you need to listen to Born Sinner beforehand. Album out now.

First beat is too ill, kept on replaying it to listen…then ended up remaking it and putting my own twist on it.
