Stream Botany’s Debut Album, Lava Diviner (True Story)

October 24, 2013

Botany's Lava Diviner (True Story) is the rare beat-based album that's best experienced from beginning to end. It's got an actual narrative arc to it—a tale born from Texas producer Spencer Stephenson's brain about a spiritual cult that's waiting for a volcano to erupt—and a structure that takes you through the dramatic storytelling stages of conflict, climax and resolution. Since there aren't any lyrics to guide you, though, it's feels more like the sonic equivalent of a mood board, chaining together enveloping choral and string arrangements, Eastern religious flourishes and beats that hit soft and sweet with the kind of strangely canny dream-logic that made The KLF's Chill Out so much more emotionally loaded than something you'd put on when you're trying to relax. Stream it in full below, grab a copy via Western Vinyl and peep a non-album bonus cut Botany recorded with former Fleet Foxes drummer Father Johh Misty here. (via Dazed Digital)
