Video: Wooden Shjips, “Everybody Knows”

December 11, 2013

Last month, West Coast psych rock institution Wooden Shjips released a strikingly un-scuzzy fourth album, Back to the Land, on Thrill Jockey. Here's a video for laidback melodic standout "Everybody Knows," strummed and crooned with the kind of evenness and restraint that makes a really pretty song feel even more melancholic. Visually, director Austin Will concocts a high resolution ode to bewitching, long-haired women and human-horse kinship that feels perfectly suited to the album's title, not to mention the band's ongoing fascination with the allure of the American landscape and the Manifest Destiny it implies. January tourdates below.
