Video: Holly Herndon, "Chorus"

Holly Herndon dropped a new EP for RVNG Intl. today, and with it, this Akihiko Taniguchi-directed video for the title track. Pieced together from original vocal takes as well as sounds pilfered from the internet, "Chorus" sees the San Francisco-based artist taking her deconstruction and re-synthesis of the human voice to a new, wholly granular level of detail. Taniguchi performs a similar operation with 3-D rendered images of various, real-life home environments, casting the materiality of various personal computer work stations into doubt while also driving home their primacy as the seat of emotional and interpersonal life. Read our Gen F profile on Herndon to learn more about her fascination with the laptop.
