SOPHIE’s New Song “LEMONADE” Has Sugar Crash Written All over It

The UK producer of “BIPP” is back with another hyper cut, plus he’s coming to a town near you soon.

July 28, 2014

A sharp, sugary tang. The rush of bubbles up the nose. That fizzy feeling. "LEMONADE" is the first new song we've heard from UK producer SOPHIE since last year's universally praised "BIPP" and "ELLE," and it does exactly what it says on the tin. With that teeth-grindingly hyper chorus, it's closer to something you could imagine he's writing for J-pop superstar Kyary Pamyu Pamyu but it's the poker-faced candy boys, cuh, cuh, candy boys that follows that gives the track its tension. At under two minutes, it's all over in a flash but the aftertaste lingers like Haribo Tangfastics: a sweet 'n' sour sugar crash that fogs up the brain, then has you dipping back in to kick your system back into gear. If that doesn't chime with how we live our online lives in these latest of late capitalism days, then gah, I dunno. Numbers will release "Lemonade" on vinyl and digital on August 4th, along with a B-side called "Hard." Peep SOPHIE's US and UK tour dates after the beeps.
