Mary J. Blige Taps Sam Smith for “Nobody But You”

Smith provides just-barely-there backing vocals for the fleet dance track.

Mary J. Blige has shared another new track off her upcoming anglophile-angled album, The London Sessions, called “Nobody But You.” The fleet R&B/dance track features a garage-style backbeat and (just barely there, unfortunately) backing vocals from Sam Smith––who, of course, she's collaborated with before. Speaking with FADER's Deidre Dyer, Blige gushed that working with Smith was “a beautiful treat”:

Well, I mean I had to be Mary J. Blige. I’m honest with my song making and with my writing. Working with artists like Sam Smith and Emeli Sandé, they are kind of the same thing. They’re pretty honest with their lyrical content. It was really, really easy because it seemed to me that everyone that I worked with is really true to what they are doing musically. It was such a beautiful treat because I had no idea that so many of them were going to be so similar to me, you know.

The London Sessions will also feature the work of Disclosure, Emile Sande, Naughty Boy and more; it's due out this December.
