Step Into Felicita’s Warped World On The Frenemies EP

The “cute” South London producer’s new EP is somewhere between lullaby and nightmare.

Felicita's latest release is arriving via GUM, a new label that's all about artefacts, which means you'll be able to cop it on vinyl with a slew of extra special merch. The south London producer moves in the same cute circles as Sophie and PC Music, and is as committed to world-building: on his new Frenemies EP, made available to stream in full via DIS magazine this week, his beats stretch and contract like they're made of rubber, with the rough-yet-glossy texture of glitter. As well as the previously shared singles "Doves" and "Climb Up Eh," there's the maddening squeaky unravelling of "mmmmmmhm," the menacing rattle of "Bring It," and the uneasy melodic plod of "Wish." Between all those spontaneous outbursts and childish mood changes, the effect of listening to whole thing at once is somewhere between the lullaby that rocks you to sleep and the nightmare that has you waking up screaming. For more creepy cuteness, have a wander around the specially created website for "Doves;" move fast enough and you might even be able to get one of those limited edition fluoro bags.
