Lorde Goes Rockabilly For “Yellow Flicker Beat” Video

Dark, gently trippy clip for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack single.

The video for Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat," from the Lorde-curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack, features the kind of trippy, zoom-in-zoom-out visuals that director Emily Kai Bock—whose increasingly impressive CV includes the iconic video for Grimes' "Oblivion" and Grizzly Bear's heady "Yet Again" clip—has become known for. But, really—it's all about the button-down shirt + pompadour combo that the pop phenom is sporting here, a look that smacks of both rockabilly chic and British electro-popper La Roux's own similar bouffant, all while remaining ineffably Lorde-esque. (Btw: happy birthday, Lorde!)
