Hear Princess Nokia’s Creepy Lullaby, “Anomaly”

New metallic tunes from the New York City digital girl.

Manhattan's Princess Nokia pulls off New Age digital girl well: this past spring's Metallic Butterfly mixtape was coated with shimmering nu-rave beats and sprite-like lyrics about dragons, Xanga profiles, and love. The duo is comprised of producer OWWWLS and vocalist Destiny—formerly known as Wavy Spice to those who caught wind of "Bitch I'm Posh" two summers ago. With new seasons come new, darker incarnations: Destiny describes "Anomaly" as a "creepy lullaby," she tells FADER. "When you've spent as much time in graveyards and funerals as I have, you develop this secondary air to you. It becomes apart of you. I celebrate the beauty in its sadness and darkness." OWWWLS laces the track with a trip-hop break and some convincing DJ cuts before our protagonist takes on an oppressive regime with an aloof edge: Listen I don't get political/ Government reform, that'll be a miracle. If Princess Nokia starred in a late '90s WB sci-fi drama, this might be the theme song.
