Mélat Shares Her Religion On “Revelation 8:2”

Watch a new video from Ethiopian R&B vocalist Mélat

December 11, 2014

Ethiopian singer Mélat sang confident R&B across her Move Me EP alongside Delicious Vinyl producer Jansport J. All the boxes were checked: a full, broad-ranged voice, starry-eyed lyrics about like and love, and dynamic, glowing production that could earn nods from the gruffest of rap heads. Today, "Revelation 8:2" sneaks in another genre trope: the gospel spiritual disguised as a love song, a la Alicia Myers' "I Want To Thank You" or D'angelo's "Send It On." Even when the whole world doubts me, you believe me, she sings, with enough presence to make us believers too.
