Meet Khary Durgans, or Khary fuckin' Durgans, that's the name, as he introduces himself on the title track from his recent Swim Team EP. At once spacey and hard-knocking, "Swim Team" features loopy wordplay, a guest verse from Rome Fortune, and an unusual, chest pounding refrain: Bitch, I'm the captain of the swim team! Likewise, the song's accompanying video is not your typical swagger rap fare—although they did seem to have a generous inflatables budget.
"Opus Proper produced the beat and it was pretty left field from what I was used to making, but it was perfect. A few months prior I had released my debut project, Love + Anchors, which was overall a pretty humble project/over looked, so I wanted to make something a lot more in your face," the New York-based MC told FADER. "And it sort of became my confidence, [Ed note: one more time, and all together now] BITCH I'M THE CAPTAIN OF THE SWIM TEAM!"
