Why Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 1 Collection Was A Success

The numbers don’t lie.

The pomp and circumstance of Fashion Month has drawn to a close, and the numbers are finally in. STYLE.COM, who meticulously features images and reviews of every major collection, has posted their seasonal tally of the most viewed collections, and Kanye's Yeezy Season 1 collection was by far the top ranked presentation. Kanye's debut for Adidas Originals racked up 4,578,461 page views, beating fashion heavyweights like Dolce and Gabanna, Givenchy and Saint Laurent, and knocking Chanel out of it's perennial number one spot.

In addition to the besting the fashion numbers game, the draped, earth-toned collection also garnered Kanye critical praise and the respect of his fashion peers. Designers from Alexander Wang to Jeremy Scott have given Kanye props for continuing to plug away at his design aspirations after many fits and critical flops. "Fashion is not an easy business [in which] to gain respect, especially when you come from the outside with an already established identity," Alexander Wang shared with WWD. "His show during the recent New York Fashion Week was a seminal moment for him, and I was so honored I could be there."
