NYC Newcomer Hannah Lucia Links With UK Rapper Giggs On “Lights Out”

“The song is about freedom and strong femininity.”

Lucia...you got to say it smooth, says London rapper Giggs with an audible wink on the intro to this new version of New York based newcomer Hannah Lucia's debut single, "Lights Out." While she's lived in NYC since she was a teenager, Lucia was born and raised in London's Camden Town and you can still hear the UK in her rich, clipped tone. The track's produced by Ben Bronfman, one of the heads behind Kanye's "New Slaves," and finds its strength in exploring the intersections between US and UK music culture.

"Making ‘Lights Out’ was a liberating experience for me," Hannah Lucia told The FADER. "The song is about freedom and strong femininity, and I felt emancipated when I wrote it. I’m really happy that I could bring Giggs on board, I have been a fan of his since 'Walk In Da Park'—it's crazy to work with him, we laughed non stop.” This Giggs-approved version of "Lights Out" will be released on June 4th.
