The White House Has Responded To Kanye West’s Presidential Announcement

The White House seems primarily interested in campaign merch.

Last night's VMAs were, in the end, sort of depressing. One of the show's high points was Kanye West's inspired acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. At the tail end of West's stream-of-consciousness acceptance, the rapper announced that he'd be running for president in 2020. Logistics aside, the announcement all but dismantled Twitter and now The White House has even chimed in. As Billboard points out, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that he looks "forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat." Perhaps he was referring to Donald Trump who, while far from a sane presidential choice, knows how to market a hat. We'll have to wait to see if we get "Swish" hats in 2020, but until then you can revisit Kanye's classic speech here.
