Dej Loaf Throws A Roller-Skating Party In Her “Back Up” Video

A tribute to Detroit.

Dej Loaf's "Back Up" is fully immersed in the culture of Detroit. The song samples DJ Clent's "Back Up Off Me," a track mastered in Motor City, and Dej recruited another Detroit MC, Big Sean, to add a verse to the tune.

The video doubles down on this theme as Dej heads to Royal Skate Land, a Detroit roller rink that was apparently "a favorite childhood haunt." The MC delivers her gruff lines—You don't know me, I'm too clean, I'm too holy—while dancers and skaters work vigorously all around her. (Some dancers show off a move called the Detroit Jit.) Watch above, and read Dej Loaf's FADER interview.
