A collaboration with Jack Splash.

Blue-eyed soul singer Bobby Caldwell made an unexpected return this week as part of a new duo called Cool Uncle. The other member of the group is Jack Splash, who has worked with a number of modern R&B singers, including Cee-Lo, Alicia Keys, Melanie Fiona, and Keyshia Cole.

Cool Uncle recently shared "Break Away," which also features vocals from Jessie Ware. (Ware once covered Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love.") The track channels the slap bass, smooth vocal layers, and easy piano runs of vintage Caldwell. Listen above, and revisit "My Flame" below—a Caldwell classic that served as the basis for Notorious B.I.G.'s "Sky's The Limit."

Cool Uncle arrives November 13. Another late '70s star, Deniece William, also contributes to the album.
