As of November 24, Adele was projected to hit 2.9 million copies of 25 sold in its first week of release, and was already the best-selling artist of 2015. Now the official results are in: according to Billboard, 25 sold 3.38 million copies in the first week in the United States, the largest single sales week since Nielsen Music began tracking point-of-sale purchases in 1991. 25 smashed the previous record for most sales in a single week, held by NSYNC's No Strings Attached. Adele's remarkable sales may be partially attributable to the fact that it was not immediately made available for streaming, but Hypebot reports that sales of 25 were almost evenly split 50/50 between physical and digital copies.
