Adele has told fans that she has quit drinking, admitting that she was a "borderline alcoholic" during her 20s. The singer, 35, revealed the news during a recent concert at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where she has been in residency since November 2022.

“I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago,” she told the crowd (via the Guardian). "It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much."

Adele has spoken about her relationship with alcohol in interviews in the past, particularly around her relationship with her father who was an alcoholic and was not around for much of her childhood.

Speaking to Vogue in 2021, Adele said her drinking habits changed during the pandemic. "I’ve always had a very close relationship with alcohol. I was always very fascinated by alcohol,” she said at the time. “It’s what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it. She said her drinking during lockdown “got earlier and earlier” in the day.

In another interview with Rolling Stone around the same time, Adele said she quit alcohol for six months after her 2019 divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki as she was keen to escape the "hangxiety" that follows a night of drinking.

Adele's year-long run of Vegas shows is due to end next month. Earlier this summer she jokingly warned fans not to throw things at her, as has become custom at some pop shows, saying that she'd "kill" anyone that did so.
