Syreeta's "Black Maybe" was written by Stevie Wonder and featured on her 1972 self-titled debut album. Yesterday, July 7, Solange shared a short clip of her covering the song as a response to the recent shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police. The caption accompanying the video read: “Been singing Syreeta's "Black Maybe" over and over again trying to comfort my weary heart. But what is comfort when the images of slain black bodies left to bleed, is sketched into your being over and over again?” In addition to Solange's musical tribute, sister Beyoncé released a powerful statement on the killings and stopped a performance in Glasgow, U.K. to remember the victims of police brutality.
