Brooklyn-by-way-of-Barbados rapper Haleek Maul is known for stacking brooding verses over intriguing beats. Last November, the GEN F alum released Prince Midas, a 12-track album that explores the complexities of the self. The album's opening track, "Return," juxtaposes disturbing verses with hopes for the future: Unrestrained by the limits that's in this thing/ I transcend, dreaming of being a being so supreme.
Today, Haleek shares the the video for "Return." In an email to THE FADER, he explained the purpose for the video, calling it the "final visual piece" of the album to make way for new music being released in the fall. "My friend Kiborz and I knocked this out last year but it's just now surfacing for a lot of different reasons," he said. "I hope everyone gets what we've been doing with these performance visuals for this record. It's really about isolation and understanding the different extremes within ourselves. I would like to thank all who were involved."
