Donald Glover's Atlanta series has been widely touted as a success by critics and viewers, and now the series, which premiered September 6 on FX, has the numbers to back it up. The show recorded the highest-rated debut of any basic cable scripted comedy series since 2013, Vulture reports.
The series premiere last Tuesday drew 1.8 million total viewers and 1.2 million telecast viewers in the target demographic of viewers under 50. The numbers mark the biggest premiere viewership for a basic cable comedy since 2013's Inside Amy Schumer. Atlanta also represents FX's biggest premiere for any half-hour show since 2011. The second episode of the show, which aired immediately after the premiere, maintained the attention of 92% of the target audience.
The third episode of Atlanta airs on Tuesday night 10 p.m. EST on FX.
