The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced their 2017 nominees on Thursday, and list includes Jay Z, Madonna, Babyface, and more, Pitchfork reports via the Associated Press. If inducted, Jay Z would become the first rapper to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Songwriters are eligible for induction after 20 years of writing popular music; Jay Z released his debut album Reasonable Doubt in 2016.
Other nominees include George Michael, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill, Babyface, Max Martin, and Kool & the Gang. The voting for the Songwriters Hall of Fame will take place through December 16, and five songwriters will be inducted at the ceremony in June. See the full list of nominees here.
