Solange is slated to perform at Peace Ball, a January 19 event The Washington Post describes as an "alternative celebration" to the festivities centered around Donald Trump's inauguration.

Peace Ball's organizers, Busboys and Poets, say the event is a nonpartisan "gathering to celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the past 4 years," particularly in areas like marriage equality, criminal justice reform, and health care.

Solange will be joined by a distinguished lineup of artists and activists including Angela Davis, Danny Glover, Alice Walker, Van Jones, Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler, and jazz virtuoso Esperanza Spalding.

Busboys and Poets' press release quotes a Howard Zinn adage in laying out intentions for the event, saying, “To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness." Learn more here.
