Chimurenga Renaissance And SassyBlack Remind Us “When It’s True Love, Shoot Farther”

The Seattle artists explore soul connections in their latest visual.

Chimurenga Renaissance's latest visual, “When It’s True Love, Shoot Farther,” is inspired by themes like forgiveness, heartbreak, and eternal soulmates. It takes us on the dark, abstract journey of two central characters, tracing their path to finding each other. The Seattle Black Constellation duo (Tendai Maraire and Hussein Kalonji) are widely known for their expert blending of experimental hip-hop with traditional African music — and in this track especially, we can hear Maraire's plucking of the mbira softly blend with SassyBlack's vocals to create a chilling effect.

"When you truly love someone, whether its friendship, monogamous relationship, or family, a broken heart will be mended by love's ability to make you a better person," Maraire told The FADER over email.
