As design and technology progress, the goal across the board seems to be creating products that are sleeker, smaller, and more light-weight. Footwear design has followed suit, prompting revolutionary inventions like knit fabrics and practically weightless soles. Despite all of these advancements making for really cool sneakers, there's something to be said about kicks that have an atypical character and charm.

In celebration of the chunky, clunky kicks we'd like to see some more of, we rounded up some favorites that you might have a blast wearing, below.

Whose grandma knit these? All jokes aside, despite the colorway having a very vintage feel, the textural element makes these sneakers quite fresh. They retail for $130, available here.

This pair isn't clunky in the traditional sense. In fact, it's so sleek that it don't even have laces — which is probably what makes it look a tad awkward. Nevertheless, the triple black colorway and futuristic air detailing make it worth a cop when it's released this fall.

5. Unif "Coreys"

Rock platforms to stay above the haters. These sneakers are like the 21st century take on saddle shoes — get some geeky goodness here.

6. Airwalk "Pearl"
