Lil Durk has shared new album Just Cause Y’all Waited, his first release as an independent artist. On Thursday the Chicago rapper told Billboard he has parted ways with Def Jam while the label is "trying a new direction."

"I've been with Def Jam Records for five years and they gave me my first recording contract so for that I'm forever grateful," Durk said. "But I'm a different artist than I was five years ago, and the time is right for a change. At the same time, Def Jam is making changes in their offices and trying a new direction. I didn't want to be a part of another regime change."

Durk released two albums, Remember My Name in 2015 and 2016's Lil Durk 2X on the major label. Last year he dropped four mixtapes, including collaborative projects with Lil Reese and Bloodas with Tee Grizzley.
