Hype Williams's full lecture on the conversation of visual music at the Red Bull Music Festival on May 10 is now available to view. The Queens native sat down with Jeff Mao and touched on a number of topics including his introduction to hip-hop, his early beginnings into music and film, and directing music videos for 2Pac, Missy Elliott, and Beyoncé.
Williams also shared that his favorite artist to work with is the Queen Bey. "The reason I say Beyoncé, obviously because of who she is, but more so, she just works harder than me. At the time, I didn’t understand that. Like, I never met an artist that would run circles around me in terms of her work ethic," he said. "I’m used to dealing with guys I’d have to force to do stuff. She was just the opposite. She was young, driven is not even the word. She’s my favorite because she inspires me that way."
