Drake’s Scorpion becomes the first album to hit 1 billion global streams

Scorpion has already been breaking records in the streaming department, and now industry sources have confirmed to Billboard that the project has surpassed the 1 billion mark on all platforms - the first album to ever do so. Prior to that, Post Malone's album Beer Bongs & Bentleys held the record for most global streams at 700 million.

It's likely these numbers will send the album straight to the top of Billboard's 200 albums chart, but the official numbers won't be released until Sunday. As Scorpion's release coincided with Billboard's new calculation formula that gives more power to paid subscription streams, the numbers from streaming alone, 700,000 equivalent units earned, could make for the year's highest sales thus far.
