Last week, Greg Dulli (of The Afghan Whigs) released his cover of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." Dulli's version, cold but laced with a bit of sentimentality, seems to acknowledge how the holiday songbook standard has aged. “I saw Meet Me In St. Louis as a child and this song just stayed with me forever,” he told The Fader. “It has a spectral quality that I always wanted to exaggerate.”
Today, Dulli is sharing a video for the song, inspired by Hans Christen Andersen's "The Little Match Girl." Directed by Philip Harder, it offers a bleak portrait of the darker side of the holiday season; the industrial complex, the bitter chill, the all consuming loneliness. Check it out below, and, uh, merry Christmas!
