Rapper Consequence — Q-Tip’s cousin and an often-featured MC on A Tribe Called Quest albums — has shared a new song featuring the late Phife Dawg, as Pitchfork notes. Phife’s verses were reportedly recorded toward the end of his life, roughly the same time that he recorded We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service. Consequence released the song in anticipation of Phife Dawg’s 49th birthday, which would have been November 20, 2019. “I always knew I wanted people to hear this record, but it just felt like the timing had to be right,” Consequence reportedly said. “This year it feels right. The one thing I know about Phife is that he’s a rapper’s rapper. The best gift I could give him for his birthday this year is to let the world hear the ‘5 Foot Assassin’ once again!”
