Kurt Vile rambles on to “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)”

(watch my moves) drops April 15 on Verve.

March 24, 2022

Less than a month away from the release of his ninth studio album, (watch my moves), Kurt Vile has shared its third offering, "Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)." The self-dubbed "fried pop" singer-songwriter announced the record in February with its lead single, "Like Exploding Stones," following up earlier this month with "Hey Like a Child."

On the new track, he automates much of his instrumental arsenal, subbing in a buzzy synth and drum machine where there'd usually be a kit and a rhythm guitar. Still, a twangy pedal steel, some tastefully plucked arpeggios, a sturdy bass line, and, of course, Vile's singularly slack singing voice combine to achieve the lived-in aesthetic his fans have come to expect in his music.

“Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)” comes with a characteristically goofy video directed by Drew Saracco. Watch it above and view Vile's upcoming tour dates below.
