Song You Need: A two-minute blast of hardcore nihilism

CANDY’s “World of Shit” isn’t exactly optimistic, but it is essential.

CANDY makes hardcore that sounds like a nuclear meltdown: a heat death where the main source of energy is no longer deemed sufficient, so everything around it must be consumed. The group's 2018 debut Good To Feel, released on the mighty Triple B Records, drew from power metal, noise music, and even ended with a fuzzy noise-pop track – it sounds something like the Jesus & Mary Chain, blown-out and exhausted after a tailgate party. The evolution continues on CANDY's new song "World of Shit," out today via Relapse Records.

The latest single from CANDY's upcoming album Heaven Is Here is, strangely enough, a kind of digestive. The group's two previous songs, "Human Condition Above Human Opinion" and "Transcend To Wet," respectively pulled from the industrial punk of Machine Girl and death metal; "World of Shit," in that context, is a more immediately recognizable hardcore track. Still, it's about as predictable as the eye of a hurricane, or perhaps a circle pit at the end of the world, every element rumbling with rage and indignity till, halfway through the song, guitar noise pierces through the song like a blowtorch through butter. Listen below, followed by CANDY's upcoming North American tour dates.
