The celebrated emcee was found dead at a friend’s home in September.

A newly released Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s report rules that Coolio’s September 2022 death was caused by an accidental drug overdose, resulting primarily from the combined effects of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine. MyNewsLA.com first reported the news on Thursday.

Coolio (born Artis Leon Ivey Jr. in 1963) was found dead at his friend’s home on September 28 of last year. His manager told reporters at the time that his friend had found him unresponsive in a bathroom he’d entered hours earlier. EMTs pronounced him dead on the scene around 5 p.m. Pacific Time that evening. Tributes to the beloved rapper flooded Twitter in the hours and days following his passing.
