“DOUBT,” which follows last month’s “LIKED U BETTER” as HELLMODE’s second single, is a typically emotional indie anthem from the Long Island rocker, who turned 40 last year. “Speak / Even if it feels weird / Even if it feels weird / To be yourself,” he begins, kicking off an empowering track that nevertheless acknowledges the gulf between words of encouragement and active self-improvement. “The redundancy of your POV / Infinite serotonin stocking fee-ver dream / Slow motion kill screen,” he sings later, as the song inches toward its climactic final verse (the lyric is listed on YouTube as “Infinite serotonin starving fever dream,” but upon several close listens I have determined that I know better).

“To me, the album feels like the chaos of being alive right now,” Rosenstock says in a press statement, speaking on HELLMODE as a whole. “We’re experiencing all these things at the same time that trigger our senses, and emotions that make us feel terrible. We’re just feeling way too much all at once!”
