Icewear Vezzo's new song "Raw ASL” is not about sign language

The track’s title, as it turns out, should be read phonetically.

Icewear Vezzo has shared a new single called “Raw ASL,” along with a Boomin Filmz-directed, news broadcast-themed music video. It’s a cut from his forthcoming album, Live From The 6, release date TBA.

Reading the track’s title alone, one could justifiably assume that the song would be about — if not entirely rapped in — American Sign Language. Unfortunately, this is not the case: as soon as the song beings, it’s clear the track’s name is meant to be pronounced phonetically, i.e “raw as hell.”

The points the Detroit rapper loses with the new song’s lack of ASL are made up by the track’s rawness. “I be really chillin on the low, bitch, I ain’t rap for weeks / Made a couple mils and I got bored, now I’m back to eat,” he raps over a minor-key, trunk-rattling beat.

Live From the 6 will follow Vezzo’s latest project, Paint The City, a Gangsta Grillz mixtape. Watch the video for “Raw ASL” above and stream the song below.
