Injury Reserve have shared a two-song music video: the first track is "Bye Storm," the final song from their 2021 album By The Time I Get to Phoenix, and the second is “Double Trio,” RiTchie and Parker Corey's debut song as a new duo called By Storm. The new video officially marks the end of Injury Reserve, and comes three years after the passing of founding Injury Reserve member Jordan Groggs.
RiTchie and Corey explained the name change in a press statement: "To respect the specificity of all three of us as Injury Reserve, we have decided not to make new music under this name. [RiTchie] and Parker have continued working together and plan to release under By Storm as a hand off from our work within Injury Reserve."
The pairing of the two songs in the new visuals is an effective one. "By Storm" transforms a sample of Brian Eno's "Here Come The Warm Jets" into a hoarse and powerful lament at the slings and arrows of the world; with the dreamlike behind-the-scenes footage of Injury Reserve prior to Groggs' passing, it's a deeply poignant first half. Then “Double Trio” fades in, bringing with it a glitchy, electronic haze and deeply introspective verses. There's an anything-goes quality to the new song — Slauson Malone-style jazz-rap and mutant footwork both make appearances over the course of the track — giving the impression that By Storm have emerged from the past three years no less creative, if significantly battle-scarred.
