Shakira has performed “She Wolf,” “Whenever, Wherever,” “Te Felicito,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” and “Objection (Tango)" at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Watch her performance below.
In addition to performing at this year’s VMAs, Shakira is nominated for three awards: Best New Artist; Best Collaboration, for “TQG” with Karol G; and Best Latin twice: for “TQG” and for “Acróstico.”
The Colombian pop star has had a rocky past year. Shortly after the release of her smash hit “Don’t You Worry” in the summer of 2022, she was charged with evading 14.5 million euros taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014. She has denied the allegation, claiming that she’s squared her debt with the country, and that she didn’t spend enough time in Spain during the years in question to be considered a legal resident. Her trial is set to begin in November. Earlier this summer, Spanish prosecutors announced that they had opened a second investigation into tax fraud by Shakira allegedly committed in 2018.
Despite her legal troubles, Shakira has continued to release music in recent months, dropping songs with Ozuna, Bizarrap, Karol G, and Manuel Turizo, as well as “Acróstico,” featuring her two sons.
