Roberto Carlos Lange has announced a new Helado Negro album. Phasor, the follow-up to 2021’s excellent Far In, is due out February 9 via 4AD. Before then, you can hear the project’s lead single, “LFO (Lupe Finds Oliveros).”

The new song was inspired by an imagined meeting between deep-listening advocate and composer Pauline Oliveros and Lupe Lopez, a Mexican-American woman who built guitar amplifiers for Fender in the ’50s. “Lupe’s amps are sought after, her care and touch apparently harnessed a special sound from this design,” Lange says in a press statement. “I fell in love with this story and this legacy and the mythology surrounding it. How craft touches us so deeply in the smallest ways. Deep care for the littlest things makes all the difference.”

Lange also directs the song’s music video and stars as a Rip Van Winkle’d version of himself traversing a green screen universe. Watch that below, followed by Phasor‘s cover art and tracklisting along with Helado Negro’s extensive world tour, beginning at the end of October.
