Hulu has shared a trailer for Cypher, an upcoming documentary on the art-rapper and FADER cover star Tierra Whack. Streaming and in theaters November 24, the Chris Moukarbel-directed film tracks Whack's ascent from the Philadelphia battle rap circuit to Grammy nominations, critical acclaim, and cult success.
A press release paints the film as an exploration of the dark side of Whack's success and visibility. "It chronicles the rapper's rise to fame and delves into a series of increasingly unsettling events that swirl around Tierra and her team-leading Tierra to question whether being seen (or watched) is a desirable and unavoidable part of fame."
Cypher won the 2023 Tribeca Festival’s Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature. The film is the newest project from Whack after the 2021 release of the EPs Rap?, Pop?, and R&B.
