Mixed Up Monday: Air France & Cold Cave
- story Peter Macia
It was a long and brain-damaging Halloween weekend even for those of us who dared to dress up as ourselves, so this morning, while we pick up the pieces, we are listening to these two mixes made by a couple recent favorites: Air France, who we met in Gothenburg last year, and Cold Cave, who we recently met right here in New York City. Actually, we aren’t listening to anything other than the hum of building right now, but judging by the tracklists, these things are great!

Air France, “Gothenberg Belongs to Me” MP3 + Video
Air France’s synth-pop is breathless and breezy 100% of the time regardless, but apparently when they’re repping for their hometown Gothenberg, Sweden, they step it up about seven notches and practically start levitating. “Gothenberg Belongs to Me” is part of a full DIY tourist-board style Gothenberg outreach program made simply for the love, complete with a video that will actually make you want to move there and partake in its beauty. Of course, we already discovered its appeal in FADER 56, when we visited the city for our Tough Alliance cover story, but Air France puts it best in their “love letter in three parts,” dedicated “to everyone whose heart skips a beat at the sight of an intersection, feeling dizzy at the amount of routes available, and to everyone who believe that a city is not just a home, it’s a lifelong companion.” Sigh! Their romance is contagious, so big up to New York from the FADER and wherever you come from, too. (via RCRD LBL)

Freeload: Air France, “Never Content (Friend’s Tropic Thunder Edit)”
- story THE FADER
We didn’t think Air France could get any summerier, but London’s Friend has achieved the impossible. Dude re-edited their breezy, seaside pop nugget and transformed it into the audio equivalent of boat shoes. We are listening to this and imagining ourselves swimming with rare albino dolphins, so appropriately pink. Pass the mojitos.

- story THE FADER
Don’t let their pillowy songs and wistful videos fool you, the fellows in Air France were key contributors to our zootedness during last summer’s Tough Alliance cover story in Gothenburg, Sweden. That’s what makes them easy to love: They will keep you up until six in the morning and then play you a song that will put you to sleep (not out of boredom).

It’s surprising to us that we’ve only ever posted about Gothenburg, Sweden’s Air France in recaps of our radio show or as part of a Tough Alliance post because A) we have partied with these dudes and B) their music takes the edge off of so many of our days that we owe them diamonds. So we’re going to remedy our neglect today by posting this brand new peaceful remix of “No Excuses” by William Ekenberg along with throwing recent videos for “No Way Down” and “Collapsing at Your Doorstep” after the jump and encouraging you to buy high-quality mp3s of their No Way Down EP.

Update: Refinery 29 just sent around their new Autumn Passing mix which includes Air France along with many other FADER favorites.

Freeload/Contest: The Tough Alliance, “Neo Violence (Windsurf Remix)” + A Night with Air France
- story THE FADER
While writing the cover story on The Tough Alliance in Gothenburg, Sweden recently, we were also lucky enough to spend time with their Sincerely Yours label signees Air France, who taught us that drinking warm beer in public and eating tapas everyday is what makes Sweden great, NOT universal healthcare and a top notch education system. We thank them for that. We also learned of Sincerely Yours’ newest signing, Nordpolen, whose lyrics so affected TTA that they requested he sing in Swedish so as not to lose any impact in translation. Nordpolen’s new album is due on September 24th, and because Sincerely Yours is run totally out of pocket, TTA is asking fans how many copies they should press. “435 or 466? or maybe 632?
we’re thinking maybe 1300,” they say. “Closest wins a night with Air France, a couple of 88:an or whatever.” Let’s make it 50,000 and all go get drunk in Sweden! Just email your guestimate to 88an@sincerlelyyours.se. The video above is for Nordpolen’s “Skimret,” the video after the jump is preview of “vet inte om jag vill,” and, just because we like you, here is Windsurf’s (an F55 Gen F) mellow ass remix of The Tough Alliance’s “Neo Violence,” the single of which will be released very soon with remixes from Laidback Luke and Woolfy, but not this one.
