Opening Ceremony Japan Mix by DJ Myles and DJ Lindsey

Opening Ceremony Japan opens its doors in exactly four days, which means all of us poor New York sods will officially be shopping on the wrong side of the planet. Jason Schwartzman appeared in a charming video ditty for his favorite store earlier this week, flying an OC-crested kite in the rain, and now our dear friends DJ Lindsey and DJ Myles have posted the grand opening mixtape. Last time we spoke to the Tipleys, they were busy prepping for their trip to Toyko, and judging by the melange (Dam Funk, Animal Collective, Theophilus London), our homies have packed a suitcase full of stylish opening night jams for Jason, Andrew Kuo, Julian Casablancas et al to get loose to. Tracklisting after the jump and tickets to Tokyo here.

FADER TV: Andrew Kuo’s I’m Dyin Over Here

For his current show, “I’m Dyin Over Here,” erstwhile FADER contributor and current New York Times illustrator, Andrew Kuo, made two paintings of going to a restaurant and seeing his ex-girlfriend on a date. We asked him if this happened twice, he said no. He painted a bunch of 2×4s to represent himself getting dunked on by Michael Jordan, charted all the ways he wasted a day. And every time we see him he’s wearing that same Bone Thug T-shirt (he’s got in on inside out in this video). And he included three separate mentions of three separate cooking shows in three separate pieces of art. That was cool. We visited Taxter & Spengemenn, where his show is up in New York City until May 16th, and had Kuo give us a walk through of his work.

Andrew Kuo Is Crazy/Talented

FADER contributor and solid-dude-around-town Andrew Kuo covered the Arts Section of the New York Times this morning with his Jams Of The Summer graph, and while we are filled with pride and joy in seeing Kuo get his first front splash (it’s practically the entire page), we have to put it out there that his top choice, Hot Stylz’s “Lookin Boy”, the video for which you can watch above, makes us think that he might be insane.

Video: Animal Collective, “Water Curses”

If you make this video full-screen and put your nose right up to it, it’s like you’re inside Avey Tare’s pupil during an Animals’ concert and it’s like whoa there are a bunch of lights right there and i’m a little confused but totally into it so i’m just going to yell some shit real quick and maybe paint my face purple and bang on this other thing over here except you’re yelling in an office, the thing you’re banging on is a stapler and the purple face paint is your broken pen. Coffee break! Kudos to Andrew Kuo and Snejina Latev for this one. More Kuo later in the week.

Kuo Is Major

For those of you who do not know, Andrew Kuo is a dude. His graphs and charts have slapped our knees and covered our pages for a long time, and now he’s coloring up the Grey Lady. When not caking off that big newspaper money, he’s reviewing Yo Gotti mixtapes with green diamonds on his blog. The only thing he has yet to achieve is a Charlie Rose interv… oh shit. Nevermind! Charlie Rose Tomorrow caught up with Andrew at his recent solo show, All Over Again, at 33 Bond, and they’ve just put up the video. Congrats Kuo!

What Kuo Worry?

Tonight sees the opening of what promises to be a fantastic art show featuring work by perennial homebrother in arms and NY Times star charter, Andrew Kuo. It’s called What Me Worry? and we do not know whether Alfred E Newman will be there or not. A charming, indubitably poncy Artist’s Statement, penned by NYT star music critic Kelefa Sanneh, informs us that “Yes, this show includes some of those graphs Andrew Kuo makes” which is definitely awesome, although many of us are equally excited to see non-chart related work from our dude, who is as much a fine artist as he is a lover of Dan Dan Noodles—and that’s pretty serious.

You’re Hired!

Ever since Kuo went all upscale on us we’ve been waiting for our hearts to beat again. Could this be it? Who knows. Friday megalolz though. (Note to Kuo: The Gray Lady is upscale in the nicest of ways.)
