Stream: FADER Radio on EVR 8/14/09
- story THE FADER
Last Friday on The Let Out (our weekly show on East Village Radio) we hosted a rare event: the EVR double feature. We might only have two hours, but we did manage to fit in an amazing set of just-purchased vinyl from Australia’s Canyons and a mysterious and off-the-wall rave hour by Mad Decent’s Toadally Krossed Out. If you missed it you’re in luck because you can stream the entire thing at the link below. Listen live to East Village Radio this and every Friday from 6-8pm EST, stream last week’s audio podcast below and check out the tracklist after the jump.

The Let Out: Canyons + Toadally Krossed Out
- story THE FADER
This week on the Let Out, the FADER’s weekly East Village Radio show, we’ve got a double shot of complete and utter awesomeness for you. If you have ever tuned in and been bummed that we didn’t have any extra special guests, this is the week for you because Australian psych/disco/purveyors of JAMS Canyons will be playing records from 6-7pm, only to open the floor for the mysterious, hyperactive and shirtless Mad Decent-associated duo Toadally Krossed Out. Missing this week’s show would be a terrible idea. Listen live to the Let Out this and every Friday from 6-8 pm on East Village Radio and catch the Toads at Flashing Lights tonight

RCRD LBL Freeload: Canyons, “Blue Snakes”
- story THE FADER
Apparently in Australia, where Canyons are from, “Blue Snakes” translates to deep grinding house that sounds like it has been listening to Art Ensemble of Chicago and/or Popo. This song is like, we are in the middle of the Australian desert having a Jodorowsky style spiritual breakthrough, hallucinating sabre-toothed big cats from the, ahem, peyote. THEN! The wind washes over us like the exhaling of god, and we are immediately wizened: know our purpose, our future, the grand plan to follow. We must dance! Barefoot! To house music! And get a pet tiger! Yeah Canyons!
Freeload: Ladyhawke, “Dusk Till Dawn” (Canyons Garage Disco Mix)
- story THE FADER
There are definitely pluses to living in New York, but also there are minuses like not being able to have band practice in your dad’s garage with your trebley Ibanez guitar starter set. We’re not sure if New Zealand’s Ladyhawke or Australia’s Canyons ever really got the chance to move a lawnmower to set up a drum set, but after listening to this it sounds like they did. Think about it, is it really that hard to picture dudes plugging in their guitars and being confused about if they like disco, but going for it anyway? We can totally picture Canyons calling their mom from the kitchen to have her come in with some Tang and also to do some hand claps because it’s what would really pull the song together.

Freeload: Canyons Death Mix
- story THE FADER
Hole in the Sky are a totally awesome Australian label that releases crazy spaced out psych disco. The dudes that make up Canyons, make a whole lot of the springy space music we have been jamming for weeks now, and just did a mix for Adam Askew’s Death of a Disco Dancer radio show. It’s kinda poorly mixed but whatever, there are jams on here.
