Chloe Sevigny and Her Red Army
- story Chioma Nnadi
When it comes to dropping a new collection, Chloe Sevigny knows how to make an entrance—and our girl is certainly never afraid to pull in an artsy friend or two for extra pizazz. For fall 09 Sevigny’s enlisted the likes of fashion photographer David Armstrong and artist Aurel Schmidt for a special lookbook-slash-artbook called Reds, a follow-up to the Chloe flipbook she released with Mark Borthwick last time around. The new lookbook is one big fashion love letter to red-headed beauties—Lissy Trullie is in there of course, as is up-and-comer Camille, a model we shot in the winter of 2007 with art photographer Martina Ivanow for a models-at-home fashion story. Opening Ceremony have posted behind-the-scene pics from the shoot at Armstrong’s Bed Stuy brownstone, along with a few choices pieces of art from the book. Somehow the awesome fluffy animal print sweaters she’s designed for next season do look best accessorized with a fizz of ginger hair.

Video: Coconut Records, “Any Fun”
- story Matthew Schnipper
A while ago, early summer, we saw Mark Gonzales skating down Seventh Ave right outside of Whole Foods. He was skating wide S-curves wearing shorts and those big khaki hats with nets that beekeepers wear. And maybe a bright yellow shirt, not sure. He directed this video for Jason Schwartzman’s solo pop vehicle, Coconut Records. (Rumor is Schwartzman is a FADER fan—Jason, holler.) Chloe Sevigny shoots video, skate dudes coast, a pretty girl reads Roberto Bolano. Or at least she flips through the book, same dif. Looks like Coconut Records is the mumblecore version of Schwatzman’s other band. See for yourself after the jump.

Stylee Fridays: It’s Chloe Sevigny, Don’t Hate
- story THE FADER
There’s this weekly thing we have in the office called Hater Thursdays. We’ve tried a few times to work Chloe Sevigny’s name into the session somehow but it never works. For example, she decides to give designing a go with a clothing line for Opening Ceremony and all we can do is obsess over it—the fake fur topped creepers and the adorably pretty liberty-print bustiers…just lovely. So when we heard Chloe was turning pictures of her modeling said collection by photographer Mark Borthwick into a real-life-for-sale art book we were mildly gleeful. I mean who on earth sells their lookbook for money? It just seems so very deliciously hate-worthy. Anyway, so this week the glossy Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Book arrives in the mail just in time for Hater Thursdays!! But it’s really not what we expected at all. Sliced horizontally down the middle flick-book style with lots of cheeky Chloe-inspired artwork peppered in between ( courtesy of an all star art cast that includes Rita Ackerman, Dan Colen, Lizzie Bougatos and Spencer Sweeney ), it’s probably the most fun we’ve had with fashion and art simultaneously for a very long time. Yes we could probably spend hours mixing and matching different Chloes: cute Russian-doll-face Chloe with hot-leggings Chloe, or crisp-white-shirt Chloe on horseback. There’s even an illustration of Chloe farting “career vegetables.” We are actually genuinely psyched that Chloe has a sense of humor to match her flawless sense of style. And if we’re being extra honest it is kind of fun dismembering her (well cutting her in two at least!) in the name of art too.
