Opening Ceremony Japan Mix by DJ Myles and DJ Lindsey

Opening Ceremony Japan opens its doors in exactly four days, which means all of us poor New York sods will officially be shopping on the wrong side of the planet. Jason Schwartzman appeared in a charming video ditty for his favorite store earlier this week, flying an OC-crested kite in the rain, and now our dear friends DJ Lindsey and DJ Myles have posted the grand opening mixtape. Last time we spoke to the Tipleys, they were busy prepping for their trip to Toyko, and judging by the melange (Dam Funk, Animal Collective, Theophilus London), our homies have packed a suitcase full of stylish opening night jams for Jason, Andrew Kuo, Julian Casablancas et al to get loose to. Tracklisting after the jump and tickets to Tokyo here.

NYC: Hump Up The JAMS + Exclusive Megamix by DJ Lindsey, Catchdubs and Mattie Safer

Long-running and long-funning Wednesday party The Hump is calling it quits on April 29th, but dry your butt’s eyes because our sis DJ Lindsey is moving on to even humpier pastures with the new Thursday night JAMS party at Le Poisson Rouge, joining FADER bros 4-ever Nick Catchdubs (Fool’s Gold) and Mattie Safer (Throne of Blood) for what we hope will be a long run of epic, sweaty, possibly partially undressed and probably partially memorable nights. And to get you psyched for the jump off JAMS, not coincidentally hosted by The FADER, the triumvirate blessed us with this brand new mix, which appropriately defines the lanes each will be swerving in come April 30th. Download below, check the flyer and tracklist after the jump and meet us next week in the downtown area!

Live: FADER 55 Party With Estelle, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson & Special Guests

Last night we headed to Le Poisson Rouge to catch a lineup of epic proportions: Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson warmed up the crowd with a bunch of songs from his OUT RIGHT NOW GO BUY IT self-titled release, as well as a couple new ones we’d never heard before. While we frantically rushed the bar for some Bass Ale between sets, we enjoyed the sweet sounds of forever FADER fam DJ Lindsey and Diddy’s premiere dudes Grind Music aka Sean C & LV. Meanwhile, Estelle presumably spent a bit of time in the green room creating futuristic sunglasses and finding a drummer who could pull off crazy drum fills, and even though we couldn’t see him we knew he was great. Estelle breezed through all the songs we wanted to hear—she did some raps and some singing and unsurprisingly ended with “American Boy”—no Kanye surprise appearance, but it didn’t matter. By the end of the night everyone was dancing and happy, smiling faces all around and looking like the last hour of a wedding reception. After the jump, see more of Dorothy Hong’s photos from the party, and stay tune for exclusive video on FADER TV.

Flyer Alert: The Golden Age Of Grotesk

BK-based graphic designer Grotesk has been responsible for some of our favorite color-coordinated doodles as of late, from the Cool Kids’ The Bake Sale cover to various tees for Stussy and Hellz Bellz (his blog is pretty ace, too). Yet his snazziest canvases of all are the weekly party flyers for The Hump, a get-together organized by former FADER editor DJ Lindsey and hubby DJ Myles alongside a rotating cast of selectors and downtown luminaries (we mentioned it a while ago, before their JPG game was quite so illmatic). The party only features tunes circa ‘88 to ‘98, but Grotesk’s illustrations avoid record digger cliches and refuse to memorialize the era in any way. Instead, he simply takes us back to the first time we saw Meth with the glass eye in the “All I Need” video, or Puffy waving his Rolex in a shiny suit, and reminds us just how much fun those goofy motherfuckers were having. Check the whole collection on MySpace, and join us in looking forward to the day dude sketches Redman with the looseleaf paper booger stuffed in his schnoz.

Freeload: The Hump Mixtape Vol. 1

The most handsome DJ couple in the world, Lindsey and Myles, just sent over this new hour-long mix as a present to all their Hump supporters. They went half on it with Myles doing the first 30 minutes and Lindsey the second. Like a baby! Or something. Myles laces (yes, laces) his part with nothing but lazy days summer jams, while Lindsey goes heavy into Nellie Hooperville (or is it Jazzie B&B?), our favorite ’90s sub-genre at the moment, before some major new jack city shit. In other words, now music. And it’s finally warm enough in New York to put on some short shorts and go to their party at the Blue Owl tonight and not catch wreck off pneumonia. So do that.

Can They Live?

If you aren’t up on the generally vicious and spiteful behavior of the neighborhood cabal aiming to bankrupt the good folks at Williamsburg BK watering hole Triple Crown, now’s the time to do brush up. FADER alumna DJ Lindsey and homebrother-in-arms Miles Tipley have been working hard to try and get Tipley &Co’s now-financially insolvent bar off their hands; neighbors and local police did a lot to edge the bar into the red through constant complaints about noise and reams of subsequent tickets—resulting in lost business plus thousands of dollars spent on (ultimately useless) sound proofing. Tipley and his investors have been trying to sell the lease to a more neighborhood-friendly buyer, but the neighborhood coven—still so angry at the Triple Crown owners (we guess nastiness dies hard)—has been trying to block any sale in the hopes of bankrupting the bar’s investors. Beyond praying for karmic retribution,
