Video: Dominique Young Unique, “Show My Ass”
Last year when the Superbowl was held in Tampa, a couple FADER editors, not having any actual interest in football, went on a googling rampage to see what rappers lived there, and/or if there was any kind of music scene there whatsoever. Sam even expressed interest in moving there, but gave up the ghost shortly after google turned up like one rapper. This was before we discovered Dominique Young Unique, Tampa’s most energetic-slash-talented 17-year-old (we are assuming). Sam might want to move there and manage her now, because as “Show My Ass” um shows, she is the deffest chica from down south since like JJ Fad (don’t front, you loved them and so did we). Do yourself a favor and head over to her MySpace, give “Hot Girl” and “Music Time” a whorl cause the shit is special and it’s nice out and it sounds exactly like we feel right now. We wanna go to the party in this video!

- story THE FADER
Ever since the Superbowl happened in Tampa and FADER staffer Sam Hockley-Smith suddenly decided he wanted to move there “just cause,” we have been vigorously scouring the city’s rap scene in hopes of finding him some sort of job—writer, manager, promoter, DJ, whatever—so he does not starve and have to like, hunt alligators and forage orange groves for food. Seventeen-year-old Dominique Young Unique, who should totally do a collabo with Rye Rye, is from Tampa: Sam, we think we have your new occupation, Dominique Young Unique street teamer. “Music Time” sounds like every song from Pee Wee’s Playhouse played simultaneously, or 32 different colors of Play-Doh being thrown at a mirror until they all stick together and run. It is pretty bananas!
